Tutorial - Coloring with minimal markers

Hi everyone! Kymberlee here again from The Paper Midwife. I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. I am visiting my daughters (and grandsons) along with their Coast Guard husbands. Going to cook them all a nice dinner tonight to show my appreciation for their service. Thankful to all the service men and women who have proudly served and remembering those who gave everything for my freedoms.

Today I thought I would do a little tutorial about coloring with your alcohol markers. I happen to own all the Copic Sketch markers but the one thing I continually hear is " but I don't have enough markers to color like that" well I'm here to tell you that YOU CAN! To illustrate my point I to a simple image from Mo's digital pencil and colored it with only THREE. Markers.

By allowing your ink to dry between applications and blending colors you can achieve fantastic results.

I started by laying down my E02 for shadows

 

Then I used my E40 the color I chose for the skin tone

 

I then used Y13 for the accent color while the ink was drying on the skin tone. I kept going back over the areas I wanted more depth letting the ink dry in between, I added a little E02 to the beak with the Y13 and used O02 on the shell diffusing it with the colorless blender. Finally adding some Y13 in splotches to give the yellow some "texture"

 

My last step was to add a bit of the E40 under the egg for depth

There you have it - an image colored with just three colors and a bit of blender.

Your challenge - try to color an image with just three colors like I did. Use layers to give your image depth. If you don't use alcohol markers to color, then make a project using three colors so you can play along too.

I am heading off to a crafting retreat and a week away from my family!  This post will have occurred right in the middle of my trip. As per what has become my usual, I am running behind and this has caught me unprepared as I STILL don't have a crafting space!
